Transforming capacities into advocacy-SRHR of young girls from marginalized communities in India

Through this project, Sama has been able to revisit its conversations with young girls from marginalized groups- dalits and tribal communities etc in rural parts of select States-about their rights, affirming their expressions as part of SRHR discussions. Workshops with young girls (125 girls were reached out to as part of this process) were conducted as envisaged albeit in a delayed manner and different format of online medium/ZOOM given the Covid surrounding situations and restrictions.

RAHMY: Respectful Abuse-free Humanized Motherhood through Youth-Empowerment

RAHMY is a research project that explores Shared Decision Making (SDM) as a tool in Respectful Maternal Care (RMC). Patient-Centered Care (PCC) has been identified by the World Health Organization as a key aspect in improving the quality of care within an integrated holistic health systems approach. However, there is limited focus on the role Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and youth empowerment play. Recent data from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) have unveiled gaps in gender equity and autonomy in SRHR decision-making. Across the Eastern Mediterranean Region, the decision-making power on SRHR, including maternal health, remains mostly in the hands of men.

The developed knowledge products aim to inform relevant stakeholders on improving access to contraception and safe abortion during crises.

Know-How of Early Marriage Prevention

The Institute for Family Health (IFP) has developed a methodology to prevent and reduce child marriage among Syrian and Jordanian girls. Through this methodology, they created a documentary video that showcases the IFP's experience and success story in preventing early child marriage. The purpose is to share their experience with other organizations, enabling them to apply similar strategies within their work to combat this significant violation of human rights.

Bridging the Gap Between Mental Health and SRHR

The purpose of this project is to generate knowledge that can be used as evidence to demonstrate that SRHR and mental health are closely connected to each other. It asserts that achieving a healthy mental state is possible only when sexual and reproductive health and rights are properly addressed. The vision of this project is to recognize SRHR as an essential component of mental health within the National Mental Health Policy.

The pandemic does not stop the right to abortion: how anti-rights groups are capitalizing on their discourse
