Sex education is NOT an option - it is a right! - La educación sexual NO es una opción, es un derecho
View knowledge productThe objective of this project was to provide concise and adequate information on sexuality and sexual and reproductive rights to adolescents and young people between 14 and 18 years old through the publication of five educational videos addressing five sexual education topics. These videos were developed and supervised by healthcare professionals and presented by female influencers and individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community. As specific objectives, the project sought to strengthen the knowledge of the target population about sexual and gender diversity, the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), sexual harassment and violence, reproductive rights and abortion, and access to quality health services for LGTBIQ+ people. Additionally, the project raises awareness among the target population about discrimination based on sexual or gender orientation, sexism, and violence: medical, sexual, and gender-based.
For the successful execution of this project, starting from February 2024, the General Management, under the leadership of the foundation’s founder and director, Alba Reyes, along with the Project Coordination, assumed responsibility for supervising and managing all activities essential to achieving the established objectives. Throughout this process, we had the technical advice and guidance provided by three experts in sexology and psychology, who contributed to the development of the theoretical content for the videos and graphic materials, in collaboration with the Pedagogy Coordination of the Foundation, tasked with crafting the theoretical documents or scripts for each video.
These documents were designed to guide the influencers throughout the content recording process, ensuring that the information presented was easily comprehensible, particularly for a young and potentially inexperienced audience in the subject matter. The following Colombian influencers were chosen to record the videos:
Mariángela Urbina: journalist, blogger, actress, and influencer recognized for her leadership in feminist movements through her work in the feminist space “Las Igualadas” of the newspaper El Espectador.
Sergio Medina: International Relations student and recognized social media influencer on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. His entertaining content has particularly resonated with the LGBTQIA+ community in the country, providing visibility and support for their life experiences.
Magdalena Moreno, known artistically as “La Morena del Chicamocha,” is a prominent transgender singer-songwriter of folk music from the Caribbean and the surrounding areas of the Magdalena River. Through her music and art, she has advocated for the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly transgender individuals, highlighting their role in history and society.
The influencers were selected through an interview process conducted by the Human Talent Coordination, with the approval of the foundation’s General Director, Alba Reyes, and the Special Projects Coordinator, Nancy Becerra. During April 2024, the Foundation’s Communications team oversaw the recording and editing of the videos, as well as the layout of the graphic pieces and their publication on the foundation’s social media.
