Metamorfosis

The knowledge product was developed by the Trans Health League, and for this project “Navegantes” was launched, a five-episode podcast that reflects the themes addressed by the organization in a series of workshops held in 2023: self-discovery, self-perception, gender identity, love, sex, pleasure, and mental, sexual, and reproductive health care. The aim of “Navegantes” is to discuss these topics through life stories that honor the concept of testimonial justice: instead of seeking experts to analyze the existence of trans people, we opened the microphone and turned on the recorder so they could tell us their lives.

An editorial decision made by the Trans Health League when considering the creation of this podcast was that most of the guests would be trans men: “It was a political decision. We wanted this first season of ‘Navegantes’ to be dedicated to passing the microphone to transmasculine individuals, who have often been overlooked or whose voices have been left behind because platforms frequently silence and censor them.” This was not done in a romanticized way, but from a political stance that seeks to ensure that no one is left behind in the race for human rights.

We managed to create our own narrative based on “testimonial justice,” thus breaking away from the traditional way of narrating trans lives through pain, suffering, or stigma. As a result, “Navegantes” is not a tragic podcast. We generated conversations that moved away from an exoticizing, stereotyped, or superficial approach, where guests of different ages, occupations, and interests discussed their journeys — the process of changes that a trans person goes through — to discover that each one is like a river, not static, but unique and fluid. That’s why we call ourselves Navegantes.
